Empowering Global Educators: Instructional Associate Professor and CET Director Dr. Nicola Ritter Hosts Two-Day Workshop for Visiting Biomedical Faculty

The Center for Educational Technologies (CET) recently welcomed visiting Biomedical Science faculty from East Asian institutions for an intensive two-day training program. Led by Instructional Associate Professor and CET Director Dr. Nicola Ritter, the workshop focused on solving complex classroom challenges through strategic technology integration and building capacity for international educational grant funding.

The opening day focused on identifying common instructional hurdles in biomedical science education and applying targeted digital tools to resolve them. Participants engaged in hands-on strategies to transition traditional lectures into dynamic, problem-solving environments:

• Targeting Friction Points: Pinpointing specific learning bottlenecks in complex anatomical, physiological, and health science concepts, then pairing them with appropriate technological interventions.
  
• Interactive Learning Solutions: Utilizing digital authoring tools and interactive modules—including CET’s custom software—to enhance student engagement and clarify complex biological mechanisms.
  
• Data-Driven Evaluation: Implementing embedded assessment tools to monitor student comprehension in real time and refine course delivery based on direct learning analytics.

On day two, Dr. Ritter drew from her background as a Principal Investigator to demystify the funding process for educational initiatives and establish long-term international connections. Key training areas included:

• Proposal Design & Target Selection: Identifying international grant sponsors and writing competitive narratives with measurable learning outcomes, sound methodology, and clear evaluation metrics.
  
• Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL): Structuring classroom technology interventions into publishable, grant-worthy research projects.
  
• Ongoing International Collaboration: To ensure lasting impact, faculty departed with direct access to a dedicated online community, establishing a collaborative workspace to co-author future international grant applications and share teaching resources.

This exchange highlighted the CET’s ongoing commitment to advancing educational innovation globally. The visiting faculty returned to their home institutions equipped with practical digital workflows to solve everyday teaching challenges and a direct digital connection to pursue joint funding opportunities. The CET looks forward to deepening these global partnerships to continuously elevate biomedical education.
